Safety is the number one priority of every First Transit employee - from drivers to executive management. It's not just a set of policies and procedures; at First Transit, safety is a way of life.
Our safety approach is based on the idea that safety comes from changing thought processes and behaviors to prepare our employees to respond to situations in ways that protects the well-being of our passengers, the public, and our coworkers. To this end, our proprietary safety program focuses on eliminating risky behaviors and mindsets and replacing them with safe ones. It also focuses on reinforcing and rewarding safe behaviors for all staff, creating a culture where safety is the foundation of every area of our operation.

Daily Safety
Safety is continually emphasized and reinforced throughout our day-to-day operations and every interaction with the communities we operate in. For example, from operations to our corporate office, First Transit starts every day, every shift, and every meeting with a safety message.
Safe Wheels
First Transit started a program, Safe Wheels, which provides new wheelchairs and mobility devices for our passengers in need. This improves the safe securement during transportation and the quality of our passengers’ lives. This innovative approach is just one of the ways First Transit is upholding our vision and values.
Safety Programs
Our proprietary BeSafe safety and training programs are industry leading. We will tailor safety solutions to meet your company, your passengers, and your community’s needs. We offer:
- Innovative technology that monitors driver behaviors and allows management to coach to improvement
- Comprehensive training curricula; First Transit is the only private contractor to use official US Department of Transportation (USDOT) training materials as the basis of its core driver training
- Extensive ongoing driver training, including classroom and behind-the-wheel. We are the only transit provider that has true one-on-one behind-the-wheel training for all our drivers.
- National and regional safety leaders monitoring safety trends and providing safety oversight to all location
The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.
